officially crawling

Lucas finally figured out that crawling will get him places tonight. He has been kind of crawling/scooting around for the last week and even all day today but we came home tonight and put on jammies and he just took off. Maybe he finally saw something he wanted badly enough to go get himself? I don't know. All I know is that nothing is safe anymore. He is a grabber!
This picture was so funny because Grace is constantly asking Daddy for "showdas" which means she wants to get up on Buck's shoulders. The kids were in the living room alone this afternoon when I heard her repeating "showdas" over and over. She has finally taken an interest in her brother lately and her favorite things to do are: 1-dump water on his head in the bath and 2- cover him with all the blankets and pillows she can find. This is worrisome as she does not realize that she could hurt him by covering him up like that. Anyway I thought she must have been trying to get on his shoulders today so I went out to find her like this. She was sitting on the bottom half of his legs and putting a baby doll on his "showdas." He obviously didn't mind so I let it continue until he started to fuss about it. It is so cute to see them start to play together. Now that he's crawling, I'm expecting a few more fights over toys, etc.?

little stinker!!

While I was working on my last post I heard a suspicious noise from the living room where Grace was supposed to be watching a movie. I went to investigate and found that she had discovered my rolls (that were going to be fluffy and awesome) for dinner raising in the warm sun of the front window. She was pinching off pieces of dough and eating it. So I guess we're having squished up, heavy rolls for dinner instead.

Lately.

Here's what's been happening around here lately.

Grace has been unexplainably ill and not sleeping well so she falls asleep in the middle of the day in random places. This time on the couch. The doctor thinks its allergies as there was nothing else he could find wrong with her but we don't know for sure.

Lucas has learned to pull himself up to his knees...still not quite crawling though. I was looking through Grace's baby book the other day though and she started pulling herself up to standing on things before she crawled...

We finally had some warm weather to play outside!

It was so warm I had to take of Lucas' socks and roll up his pants. He LOVES to swing.

Grace loves hats these days. She put this one on at the store the other night and I couldn't help but buy it for her...it also doubles as a hat for me since we need all the shade we can get in our backyard! You kind of have to look twice to tell whether this is her front or back...it's her back by the way.

bunch of sleepers around here

No question that Grace belongs to Buck! They look so much alike here sleeping in on Sunday morning (this was of course after Grace had been awake from 4 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.) Shouldn't it be my 9 mo. old that doesn't sleep?? Oh, well. I'm glad to have it only be one of them and not both.

Lucas is not crawling just yet but he's getting very close. He gets around though. When I put him on the floor with his bottle, he was on the other side of the room. He apparently made it over to his laundry basket to grab his pants out (meanwhile bringing his bottle along with him) and then made it over next to his crib (with pants and bottle in tow). Buck found him asleep on the floor and so I went to grab the camera and when I stepped around him he woke up and started to drink again but you can see how sleepy his eyes are in this picture. He fell asleep here again and I finally just put him in bed. Tired boy!
He had his 9 month check-up on Thursday and is 30 inches long (92nd percentile) and 20 lbs. 13 oz. (50th percentile). The doctor's words were, "He's measuring long and skinny, but he sure doesn't look it." Don't be fooled by those cute chubby cheeks!

Grace has been so funny lately. She loves to play and she chatters or sings to herself all day. Tonight she found 2 pair of my old soccer socks in my D.I. pile that I have kept for much longer than I ever should have I'm sure and wanted to put them both on. She walked around the house in them for several hours and at one point I found her playing in this little shade tent and she was chattering away as she pulled it down toward her and let it pop back up.

Grace's new thing in the tub is to dump water on Lucas' head. I used to stop her but then decided that he doesn't really mind so let them both have fun.... I'm sure he'll get her back one day.

Welcome back real TV

I may be a minority on this but I DO NOT LOVE reality TV and I have missed my shows I was watching before the writer's strike. I have been enjoying Eli Stone on Thursdays but that has been all that I have had to watch! I am totally looking forward to the return of The Office tonight. Finally!

observation day

Today was observation day for Grace's dance class so I decided to take the camera and get a few shots of her.
She will sit on her little spot without me but as you can see she is usually faced backwards and not always participating. Some days are better than others. She spends most of the time looking at herself in the mirror at the back of the room.

The little girl in purple didn't want to hold Grace's hand. When Grace grabbed her hand she tried to pull away so Grace threw her hand back at her like, "Fine. I don't want to hold your hand either."

This is her trying to hop. The teacher (Miss Kris) has to hold her hand a lot to keep her attention on what they're doing.

One of Grace's favorite parts of class is when they get to dance with scarves. Here she caught it on her arm.

I thought these next two pictures were funny because of the look on her face as she's tossing her scarf in the air.

Who would want to wiggle their scarf around when they can wear it on their face?

Grace actually did really well at dance today considering that she had been up since 5:00 a.m. after going to be at 12:00 a.m. Speech on the other hand was a different story...she didn't do so well there. I knew I was jinxing myself by telling people how well she had been going to bed and sleeping lately. I hope this was just a one night thing.
